The trades get made in Manhattan. A lot of them get settled, custodied and reported from Jersey City.

Washington Boulevard and Exchange Place hold the operations floors of clearing firms, custodians, transfer agents and an insurance statistics bureau. That work runs on file transfers, batch jobs and entitlements to client account data, and the service accounts behind them often outnumber the staff.

in short·20-second read

Jersey City clients for this kind of work are custodians, clearing and settlement operations, fund administrators, transfer agents and insurance data providers.

We handle entitlement reviews on account and position data, privileged access to settlement platforms, and the machine credentials behind file transfers. We also build governed pipelines into reporting and analytics. Cohash works from Frisco, Texas; we serve Jersey City remotely and travel in for workshops and launches.

Cohash has no Jersey City office; our US base is Frisco, Texas. We do the engineering remotely and come to your floor for discovery workshops, control walkthroughs and launch weekends.

who and what

Who we work with in Jersey City, and the rules they work under

industries
  1. Clearing, custody and settlement operations

Operations staff hold entitlements to client accounts, positions and cash movements across several platforms, and many of those grants were copied from a colleague years ago. We rebuild entitlements around operational roles, add maker-checker rules for sensitive functions, and keep a reviewed list of who can release payments or change standing instructions.

  2. Fund administration and transfer agency

Shareholder records, NAV files and investor statements move between administrators, fund boards and distributors over SFTP and APIs. Each connection has a key or certificate that someone created once and nobody owns now. We inventory those machine identities, assign owners, and move them into a vault with expiry alerts and rotation.

  3. Insurance data and analytics

Statistical agents and analytics vendors receive premium and loss data from many carriers, so tenant separation is the core control. We design how carrier users, internal analysts and model pipelines reach that data, and we document lineage so a carrier can see where its submissions went.

  4. Trading and market infrastructure technology

Firms that build trading communications, platforms and SaaS tools for the banks across the river carry their clients' security questionnaires. We tighten engineer access to production, put CI and cloud workload identities on short-lived tokens, and produce the access evidence that customer due diligence asks for.

regulations
  1. New Jersey breach notification, N.J.S.A. 56:8-163 ↗

Residents get notice in the most expedient time possible and without unreasonable delay. The Division of State Police gets a report before any customer notice, and nationwide consumer reporting agencies must be told when more than 1,000 people are notified at once.

  2. New Jersey Data Privacy Act (P.L.2023, c.266) ↗

Effective 15 January 2025. Thresholds are 100,000 New Jersey consumers a year, or 25,000 where the business profits from selling personal data. The mandatory 30-day cure notice from the Division of Consumer Affairs ran only through the act's first 18 months.

  3. SEC Regulation S-P amendments (2024) ↗

Broker-dealers, investment companies, registered advisers and transfer agents need a written incident response program and must notify affected individuals within 30 days of becoming aware of unauthorized access to sensitive customer information. Larger entities had 18 months from publication to comply and smaller ones 24.

01Does the Regulation S-P update change what our identity team has to deliver?

It raises the bar on detection and on knowing what was touched. To notify within 30 days you need logs that tie access to specific customer records, plus an inventory of service providers holding that data. We build the access logging and the provider credential inventory, and your compliance team owns the notice itself.

02Our transfer agent and fund admin feeds run on SFTP accounts nobody remembers creating. Where do we start?

We start by pulling every account and key from the SFTP servers and managed file transfer tools, then match each one to a counterparty and an owner. The ones nobody claims get disabled in a controlled window. After that, the remaining credentials move to a vault with rotation dates.

03How do we keep carrier data separated in a shared analytics platform?

Row and column policies in the warehouse, tied to tenant attributes from the identity platform, plus separate service identities per carrier pipeline. We test the separation with negative cases, such as an analyst trying to query another carrier's losses, and keep those results as evidence.

04Do New Jersey breach rules apply if our customers live in New York?

Each state's statute follows its residents, so a Jersey City firm usually works through New Jersey, New York and other states' rules at once, plus Regulation S-P for SEC-registered entities. We build one incident data set that answers all of them, and counsel decides which notices go where.
